STORYTELLING DINNER
Acclaimed Mass.
Storyteller Laura Packer to visit Corner
House Inn
On Thursday,
March 29th the Corner House Inn welcomes Malden, MA storyteller Laura Packer to their popular Storytelling Dinner program. Laura Packer has been telling stories her whole life; her mother reports she was born talking. She has told stories in venues as wide ranging as Exchange Place Stage at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesboro, Tennessee; The Art of Storytelling Festival in Miami; London’s Hyde Park; the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; NASA; Three Apples Storytelling Festival; Sharing the Fire Storytelling Conference; 2006 and 07 Usability Professionals Association; theaters, festivals, schools, libraries, hospices, stages around the country, and at Cape Breton Storytelling Symposium.
For almost 20 years Laura has been telling original and traditional stories for adults and older children that always lead listeners down unexpected avenues. She is a past Chair of Sharing the Fire, the oldest, largest regional storytelling conference in the US, past board member of both the League for Advancement of New England Storytelling and the National Storytelling Network. Laura has also hosted several Boston-area storytelling series.
Laura’s unusual and enchanting stories are influenced by the oldest myths and everyday occurrences. Her style of storytelling welcomes audiences into the story and encourages them to be part of the creative experience. Internationally known storyteller Brother Blue has described Laura’s recordings, Kansas and other Stories, and A Passion of Stories as “pure storytelling.”
For the Corner House audience Laura will be telling a selection of original Crazy Jane and Red-Haired Annie stories. Crazy Jane is a holy fool, who finds herself in unusual and comic situations. Her wit and whimsy are balanced by the common sense of her friend, Red-Haired Annie. These two adventurers inhabit a world of magic and wonder. These stories draw from the oldest myths, to weave a web of wonder that speaks to adult journeys and childhood dreams.
Laura holds a degree in Folklore and Mythology from Boston University. When she isn’t telling stories or teaching, she is a writer, archivist and internal communications coordinator at iRobot Corporation, the leading mobile robotics firm in the world. She can be reached at
