STORYTELLING DINNER
Massachusetts
Storyteller visits Corner House
Acclaimed
storyteller Libby Franck, of Framingham
MA, visits the Corner House Inn’s
Storytelling Dinner Program. Libby’s stories, both
fantastical and historical, celebrate
the triumph of the human spirit through
courage, wit, tenacity and trickery. Her
myths, legends and folk tales frequently
feature intrepid heroines. She seeks out
strong, daring and unusual women of
history to research and dramatize.
Libby has storytelling in her bones. Her
mother told tales in Midwestern
libraries in the 1920’s and 30’s and now
Libby continues the tradition. Libby has
studied storytelling at Simmons and
Lesley College, and attended an
international Storytelling Symposium in
Sussex, England. She has also studied
classical mythology and Arthurian
legends. Libby has recently produced a
prize-winning CD entitled “Women of the
Sea” which features, among others, the
tale of a Cornish lass sent to an
Australian penal colony, Botany Bay, ca
1790. The story describes her ordeals
which lead the young lady to make the
only known successful sea escape – 3000
miles to a Dutch port.
Libby is an active member of the
storytelling community, having written
and edited articles for the League for
the Advancement of New England
Storytelling (LANES) newsletter and
served on LANES Board of Directors as
both secretary and president. For 14
years she produced a TV show “Tales from
Cricket Corner” on Natick Cable
featuring storytelling. This program won
a Massachusetts Community Television
Award in 1994 and 1995. She was also the
hostess of the bimonthly program “The OutSpoken Word” in Metrowest.
Libby has performed widely throughout
New England at venues such as Boston
First Night, New England Folk Festival,
Three Apples Storytelling Festival,
public libraries, folk clubs, senior
centers and historical societies.
Don’t miss this opportunity to see one
of New England’s premier storytellers!
